Calculation Methodology and Classical Rules
We believe in complete transparency. Every muhurta recommendation is computed using verified classical texts and modern observational astronomy.
1. Drik Ganita (Observational Astronomy)
Traditional panchang systems in India historically relied on text formulas from the Surya Siddhanta. Over centuries, planetary positions drifted by several degrees due to precession of the equinoxes. In our portal, we strictly follow Drik Ganita (observational positions).
Planetary and lunar positions are computed using the Swiss Ephemeris compiled to WebAssembly, operating in high-precision Moshier mode. Sunrise and sunset calculations account for atmospheric refraction and the sun upper limb, matching modern observatory observations within thirty seconds.
2. Panchanga Shuddhi (The Five Limbs)
A candidate window must first pass the five basic Vedic limbs of time:
Tithi
Rikta tithis (Chaturthi 4th, Navami 9th, Chaturdashi 14th) and Amavasya (New Moon) are avoided for auspicious beginnings. Shukla Paksha tithis generally carry higher weight.
Vara
Weekdays are governed by planetary lords from sunrise to sunrise. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are auspicious for creative and family ceremonies.
Nakshatra
Each occasion requires specific nakshatras (e.g. Rohini and Hasta for Marriage; Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada for House Construction). Ganda Moola nakshatras are evaluated with caution.
Yoga and Karana
Eight inauspicious yogas (including Vyatipata, Vaidhriti, and Vishkambha) are flagged. Vishti Karana (Bhadra) occurring in Mrityuloka (Earth) is strictly blocked.
3. Personal Compatibility: Tarabala and Chandrabala
A generic auspicious day might be unfavorable for an individual. When you provide birth details, we calculate:
Tarabala (Star Strength)
Counted from your Janma Nakshatra to the day nakshatra in cycles of nine: Sampat (2), Kshema (4), Sadhaka (6), Mitra (8), and Ati-Mitra (9) provide positive points. Vipat (3), Pratyak (5), and Vadha (7) deduct points or require remedial hours.
Chandrabala (Lunar Strength)
Transiting Moon in the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, or 11th house from your Janma Rashi is auspicious. Transiting Moon in the 8th house (Ashtama Chandra) is a hard block for major ceremonies.
4. Lagna Shuddhi (Rising Sign Purity)
The Lagna changes roughly every two hours. Within an auspicious day, the rising sign at the exact moment of the event determines its lasting success.
- The Lagna must be in harmony with the nature of the occasion (e.g. Fixed signs for Griha Pravesh; Movable or Dual signs for Travel).
- The 8th house from the rising sign must be unoccupied by malefic planets (Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu).
- Natural benefics (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury) should ideally occupy Kendras (houses 1, 4, 7, 10) or Trikonas (houses 5, 9).
